Okay quick question, yes we all want Piper and Alex to kiss. But, can we all agree their relationship is abusive?

It’s not abusive. Alex and Piper were good to each other when they were in a relationship and any betrayals and fights they have since prison…
That’s cool, I guess everyone will see their relationship differently it’s pretty subjective I just don’t see it as abusive in the sense that a lot of people do. In the second season during the Chicago thing even Alex admitted it herself, she handled things the wrong way by assuming that Piper would tell the truth meanwhile Piper assumed Alex would lie. It was more of a case of misunderstanding between them than Alex trying to deliberately sabotage Piper. Now as for Piper bringing Alex back to prison at the end…we don’t know her motivations for that. She may have felt like it was the only way to keep her safe, it may have been an act inspired by anger at Alex for her prior manipulations or it may be simply that Piper doesn’t feel she can survive prison without her, in which case this is Piper’s own character flaw coming out. Either way I’m confident season 3 will explore them working out their character flaws and relationship issues.

Pipers major character flaw has been out since the first episode..from day one we found out that she is extremely selfish.Every good thing shes done for any of those characters were for her benefit not theirs. Those around her don’t do her any favors by enabling her selfish ways. As much as they fight against her or ignore her to try to teach her a lesson, in the end she always gets what she wants (food,Larry, Alex, less shu time, jail transfer, furlough, Alex again) .I’m not sure if Piper can NOT have an emotionally abuse relationship because of how selfish she is. Alex’s character flaw is she is also selfish but shes not about doing favors for anyone unless its life or death. I can’t predict what direction their relationship will go this upcoming season but for it to go in a positive direction they both need to learn to do things for others out of the good without expecting a return.

I think you’re misinterpreting Piper’s character quite a bit. Piper is not as selfish as you make her out to be, one of her main flaws is that she is naive and self-absorbed if anything which sometimes causes her to say or do the wrong thing and look stupid. The other flaw which I was referring to above was more along the lines of her being overly dependent on another person for comfort etc, which may have been what prompted her to bring Alex back the Litchfield but I digress. She almost always attempts to correct her mistakes once she realizes the damage they have caused, which an extremely selfish person wouldn’t do. I think you might be giving Piper too much credit for thinking that everything she does consciously has some underlying motive (that sounds more like Vee or even Alex) Piper is not manipulative, she’s too obtuse. I can think of many examples of her deliberately trying to compromise with others and doing things things for others. For example, in season 1 she tried to get Pennsatucky out of Psych, in season 2 she helped the old woman and even when she was with Alex she smuggled drug money. She was also the only of Alex’s girlfriends who didn’t just stay with her for the material lifestyle. At the very least she tries not to offend or hurt others-she feels guilty if she thinks she has and I think if she were as selfish as you make her out to be she wouldn’t care. Red, Vee, Tastee, Alex, Daya and Larry are arguably more self-serving than Piper and unapologetically so. I can’t think of many purely selfless actions they have done which couldn’t be interpreted as having their own interest at heart.

I agree that she’s not manipulative at all, at least not blatantly like those other characters you mentioned. And yes she is definitely naive and self absorbed. I do have to educate myself on the difference between self absorbed and selfish though because I might be using them incorrectly and interchangeably. However, I still believe that her naive behavior continues to grow from always getting what she wants at the end of all the bad things happening to her. But I guess I’m just being too psychological about things. There’s a theory that says we all do things unconsciously and consciously to meet our basic human needs( power, survival, freedom, fun, and belonging). In that theories sense Piper and every other human being in the world are just doing things to meet THEIR needs but her being the main character it’s more broadcasted and shown.

She can’t make up her mind as to who she wants to be with and that’s fine, but the way she went about it was blaaaaah and her naive ways makes her blind to the unintentional hurt she causes others (specifically her two love interests) .I also like to think her getting Pennsatucky out was an act of kindness for her but I also think she just couldn’t stand the guilt. Her character is complex in that sense.

Tina Belcher has been introduced as a new character on OITNB season 3. While I am just wishfully thinking..she does do her best version of the Watson and looks pretty good in orange.
